Seminar on role of ICT in agriculture held at VU

Virtual University of Pakistan organized a seminar on “ICT for Agriculture in Pakistan” at M.A. Jinnah Campus Lahore on November 30, 2016. The objective of the seminar was to create awareness about the use of information & communication technology (ICT) in agriculture sector that can help to enhance agricultural production towards a better future.

Mr. Ammar Jafri, DG Center of Information Technology, in his address, informed the gathering about the aims and objective of Kisan Bibi and Kisan Chacaha video learning Project. It may be recalled that by the help of Kisan Bibi and Kisan Chacaha project, lot of farmers of far flung areas are being trained and  have access to the latest farming techniques, practices and every information which is required by farmers to increase the yield and profitability.

In addition to the farmers, he further discussed various initiatives being taken that helped to train women in ICT tools as well as skills required to successfully run their home based businesses. He was of the view that ICTs can help to improve interaction between farming community and agro-scientists to better identify farmers’ specific problems.

Seminar was attended by large number of students, faculty members and professionals from IT sector.
