4th e-Learning and Distance Education Conference (#ELDEC17) concludes

The 4th e-Learning and Distance Education Conference (ELDEC) concluded at University of Education Lahore on Tuesday November 21, 2017. This international conference was organized by Virtual University of Pakistan in collaboration with University of Education Lahore during November 20-21, 2017. Speakers and delegates from academia and corporate world converged during the two-day event. The theme of the conference was "e-Learning and Distance Education: Envisioning the Future: Rethinking, Reshaping, Redesigning Education ". A big number of national educationist and delegates from Malaysia and Indonesia participated in the mega event. A total of 5 keynote speeches and 30 technical papers split over in 5 sessions were presented in two days. Executive Director, Higher Education Commission Prof. Dr. Arshad Ali was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony and Prof. Dr. Nizamuddin, Chairperson Punjab Higher Education Commission graced the event as chief guest at the closing ceremony.

An international lineup of keynote speakers included Prof. Dr. John Arul Phillips, Dean School of Education & Cognitive Science, Asia e University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Prof. Dr. Tian Belawati, Former Rector of Indonesia Open University, Indonesia and national speakers included Dr. Zahid Majeed, Director International Collaboration & Exchange Office, Allama Iqbal Open University, Dr. Munawar Sultana Mirza, Virtual University of Pakistan and Dr. Rauf I Azam, Vice Chancellor, University of Education, Pakistan. The sessions were chaired by Dr. Najma Najam, Dr. Munawar Sultana Mirza and Dr. Zahid Majeed. A big number of scholars from various universities across Pakistan attended the event. A Gala Dinner was also organized for the foreign and local delegates.

Giving an overview of the two-day conference, Dr. Naveed A Malik, Rector Virtual University of Pakistan said that Virtual University of Pakistan holds a leadership position, being the pioneer of technology-based education with the objective of providing quality distance education. The University has not only introduced a new trend in education but also opened new avenues both for educators and learners. To keep pace with the ever-changing trends in ICT, Virtual University has always realized the need of a platform where innovative developments in e-Learning can be exchanged and discussed by all stakeholders. E-Learning and Distance Education Conference (ELDEC) is the practical realization of this need. He thanked everyone involved in making the 4th ELDEC 2017 a great success and expressed his appreciation for the support provided by partner institutions and sponsors.

The conference was attended by a large number of dignitaries, educationists, intellectuals, business executives, and government representatives, representatives of the corporate world and scholars of various academic institutions. The ceremony concluded with the distribution of shields, souvenirs and certificates for the organizers of the Conference.
