Seminar on Access, Equity, and Lifelong Learning in Recognition of the International Day of Education
The Department of Education, Virtual University of Pakistan, in collaboration with ORIC, successfully organized a seminar titled “Access, Equity, and Lifelong Learning” on Friday, January 23, 2026, in recognition of the International Day of Education. The session was held from 10:00 am to 12:15 pm and drew an impressive participation of around 326–330 attendees, highlighting strong interest in inclusive and lifelong learning.
The event was honoured by the presence of Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood, Rector, Virtual University of Pakistan, as the Chief Guest, who delivered the opening remarks and emphasized the importance of equitable access to education in today’s world. Participants were warmly welcomed by Ms. Darakhshan Muslim. The seminar featured two distinguished guest speakers who shared valuable expertise and global perspectives: Mr. Abid Gill, Deputy Chief Advisor of the Advancing Quality Alternative Learning (AQAL) Project, JICA, presented on “Access, Equity, and Lifelong Learning: Challenges and Policy Perspectives for Out-of-School Children (OOSC).” Drawing on over two decades of experience with organizations such as UNICEF and UNESCO, he highlighted innovative non-formal learning pathways, policy reforms, and strategies to ensure education for marginalized communities.
Dr. Tooba Saleem, Assistant Professor, HEC Approved Supervisor, and Additional Director, Centre for Lifelong Learning, AIOU Islamabad, delivered an insightful talk on “Quality Access and Relevance: Aligning Teaching, Assessment, and Learning Needs in Lifelong Learning Programs.” She shared her expertise in educational measurement, curriculum mapping, and formative assessment in online learning environments. An interactive question-and-answer session was also conducted, allowing participants to engage directly with the speakers and discuss key issues related to access, equity, and lifelong learning.
The session concluded with thoughtful closing remarks by Dr. Ather Azim Khan, Registrar, Virtual University of Pakistan. The event was organized under the leadership of Dr. Sumbal Asghar (Chief Organizer), with Dr. Hina Amin serving as the Focal Person, whose efforts ensured the smooth coordination of the seminar. The seminar provided a vibrant platform for meaningful dialogue, reinforcing the commitment to equitable access, quality education, and lifelong learning opportunities for all.
