An online workshop on the use of PRAAT Software was conducted by Dr. Qurrat ul Ain, Head of the Department of English, on July 24, 2026. The workshop was organized to familiarize students with the essential tools and techniques used in speech analysis. The session commenced with a comprehensive overview of PRAAT Software, highlighting its significance in the fields of linguistics, speech pathology, and language technology. Dr. Qurrat ul Ain emphasized that proficiency in PRAAT is a highly valuable foundational skill that can significantly enhance the quality of students' academic and research work, particularly in courses involving phonetics and speech analysis. Designed as a practical, hands-on training session, the workshop enabled students to develop essential skills in recording high-quality speech samples and systematically segmenting speech data. Participants also learned how to create TextGrids for accurate annotation, extract formant frequencies, and generate professional formant charts for acoustic analysis.
