Associate Degree in Sociology

Introduction

The Associate Degree in Sociology is a regular 2-year degree program. The basic purpose of introducing two years Associate Degree Program in Sociology is to instill into the students the very concepts of society, its institutions, and their functioning to provide students with an opportunity to start their careers at the early stages of their life. To enable the students with the necessary skills and methods needed to understand society and address social issues, students will be trained with practical skills to work in indigenous settings of diverse populations in different development projects and fields.

 

Objectives

    1. Essential Sociological Knowledge: Have knowledge of essential sociological concepts and theories, including social structures and processes, social problems, inequalities, and social change.
    2. Basic Application of Sociological concepts: Develop the ability to utilize sociological concepts by incorporating theory, evidence, and their significance in contemporary discussions.
    3. Integrating Specialized Knowledge: Demonstrate an extensive understanding of social phenomena by integrating knowledge from specialized fields such as Community Development, Population Dynamics, Gender Studies and Sociology of Education.
    4. Ethical Responsibility and Social Awareness: Cultivate ethical awareness within the sociological domain and advocate for inclusivity and diversity to promote responsible global citizenship and social justice.
    5. Digital Literacy and Professional Development: Inculcate and use digital skills and communication abilities to support personal and professional growth, and promote lifelong learning.

 

Eligibility Criteria

Intermediate (12 years of education)/ A- Level or equivalent qualification with at-least 45% marks.

Note:

  • An IBCC equivalence certificate will be required in case of foreign or local qualification that requires an additional clarification.
  • Candidates having less than 45% marks in Intermediate or equivalent qualification will be eligible for admission after the successful completion of “Zero Semester”.

Assessment Criteria

The students’ study progress evaluation mechanism is based on continuous assessment throughout the semester by giving assignments, on-line quizzes, Graded Discussion Board (GDB), mid-term and final term exams. The mid-term and final term exams are conducted at VU’s designated centers and usually count for 80 to 85% of the total marks for a course.

Award of Degree

To be eligible for the award of Associate Degree in Sociology, a student is required to earn prescribed number of credit hours (66) with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 out of 4.
