Passionate about advancing healthcare outcomes and medical knowledge, I am an experienced professional in health sciences with a robust background in research, laboratory operations, and teaching. Currently, I serve as an Assistant Professor at the Virtual University of Pakistan, where I teach courses in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology, and Immunology. My expertise lies in conducting bioassays, running laboratory experiments, and analyzing data, with a focus on viral oncology and the impact of HPV on cancer development.
Throughout my career, I have successfully coordinated research projects, supervised numerous student theses, and contributed to curriculum development. My work has been recognized through grants, publications in reputable journals, and invitations to speak at conferences and workshops. I am dedicated to fostering collaborative research environments and driving innovation in healthcare biotechnology.
Key accomplishments include receiving a Start-up Research Grant from HEC, publishing multiple research articles, and scaling up the Microbiology Lab at my current institution. With a PhD from NUST and a commitment to professional development, I aim to continue contributing to the field through impactful research and effective teaching. |

Decoding the Genetic and Structural Features of HPV16 E5 Oncogene in Cervical Cancer Isolates from Pakistan: A Pilot Study
|
This is the first study reporting HPV16 variants in a Pakistani population based on variations in the E5 region. Our findings indicate that isolate 11 has a strong interaction with the intracellular domain of EGFR, which may enhance the generation of downstream signals. Since this was a pilot study to explore E5 gene mutation, future studies with large samples are absolutely needed.

In-silico analysis of phylogenetic relationship and potentially damaging nsSNPs in human SLC2A2 gene (2021). Journal of King Saud University
|
In this study, in-silico analysis was done to find phylogenetic relationship of human GLUT2 protein and possible deleterious effect of nsSNPs of its coding region. Clustal Omega was used to make phylogenetic tree. SIFT, PolyPhen, PROVEAN and SNPeffect were used to predict deleterious or tolerated SNPs. 167 nsSNPs were predicted to be damaging by SIFT, 65 to be possibly damaging and 77 to be probably damaging by PolyPhen. PROVEAN predicted 162 nsSNPs to be neutral and 138 to be deleterious. 101 SNPs were found to be damaging by three algorithms: SIFT, PolyPhen and PROVEAN.

Impact of HPV E5 on viral life cycle via EGFR signaling, (2020) Microbial Pathogenesis
|
Oncoprotein E5 is gaining popularity with time as the third transforming protein of Human Papillomavirus (HPV). Extensive proliferation is the distinguished feature of developing cancers, and E5 is able to stimulate keratinocytes proliferation via upregulation of EGFR signaling pathway. Thus E5 is thought to indirectly contribute to the completion of the viral life-cycle by generating the adequate cellular environment. By amplifying EGFR signaling E5 delays differentiation and allows hyperproliferation of keratinocytes which otherwise would have followed a normal differentiation pathway. Thus exploring the mechanisms by which HPV E5 regulates signaling by EGFR receptors in detail suggest new ways of inhibiting HPV-mediated disease progression.
