A high-level delegation from Government College University (GCU) Lahore, led by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry, Vice Chancellor GCU Lahore, visited the Virtual University of Pakistan (VU) at its MA Jinnah Campus, Lahore to explore potential collaboration and knowledge sharing in the field of online and distance learning education.
The delegation included Prof. Dr. Shahzad (Controller of Examinations), Mr. Sarwar Khan (Treasurer), Dr. Shoukat (Registrar), Dr. Waqas (Chairperson, Department of Computer Science), Mr. Mehtab (Department of Information Technology), and Dr. Sufian (Department of Computer Science).
The visiting team was warmly received by Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood, Rector VU, who in his welcome remarks briefed the guests on the university’s pioneering role as Pakistan’s first fully digital university. He highlighted how VU has transformed higher education by leveraging modern ICT tools, online learning platforms, and virtual classrooms to reach learners across the country and beyond.
In his address, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry appreciated VU’s contribution to promoting quality education through technology-driven solutions and expressed GCU’s keen interest in adopting VU’s model for expanding its own online and blended learning programs.
A comprehensive presentation and system demonstration were conducted by Mr. Ahsan Zafar Puri and Mr. Javed Younus (Director ICT/GM-IT), showcasing VU’s robust learning management systems, examination solutions, content delivery mechanisms, and virtual communication tools. The discussion focused on areas of potential cooperation where VU could extend technical and academic support to GCU in building a sustainable e-learning infrastructure.
Prof. Ather Azeem (Registrar VU) delivered the concluding remarks, reaffirming VU’s commitment to sharing expertise with other institutions for the collective advancement of digital higher education in Pakistan. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Javed (Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology, VU) presented souvenirs to the delegation as a gesture of goodwill.
The delegation later visited VU’s Data Center and VU-TV Studios, where Mr. Khizer (GM-ICT) briefed them on VU’s digital content production and broadcasting facilities. The visit concluded with a refreshment session and discussions on future collaborations between the two universities to strengthen Pakistan’s online education ecosystem.
