International Symposium on Genetics Disorders and Prevention held at VU

Virtual University of Pakistan (VUP) organized two day international symposium titled “Genetic Disorders & Prevention” at M. A Jinnah Campus Lahore on February 06-07, 2019. The event was organized by Department of Molecular Biology, Faculty of Science & Technology VUP in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The event brought together international spectrum of visionaries and delegates from academia across the country. An international lineup of keynote speakers included Prof. Dr. Stylianos Antonarakis, University of Geneva Medical School, Switzerland, Dr. Sergery Nikolaev, Gustave Roussy Cancer Center, Cedex, France, Dr. Konstantin Popadin, Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, Kaliningrad, Russia and Cario Rivolta, University of Lausanne, Switzerland.

A total of 10 research papers presentations split over in 2 technical sessions. Dr. Shahid Mahmood Baig, Chief Scientist, National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE), Faisalabad was the chief guest of the event. All experts and practitioners presented the latest innovations, advances and shared their experience for trends and opportunities in related fields

They further discussed preventive strategies for genetic diseases, tumor genetic profiling in hereditary cancer, molecular genetics of hereditary retinal degeneration and infectious diseases and drug response in patients with genotype.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abbas Choudhary, Rector Virtual University of Pakistan said that this symposium provided a unique forum for conceptual interactions and thoughtful discussions of the latest research results. He expressed his appreciation of the support provided by partner institutions. The conference was also attended by a large number of dignitaries, educationists, intellectuals and scholars of various academic institutions. The ceremony concluded with the distribution of shields, souvenirs and certificates for the participants and organizers of the event.
