Intl. Conference on ‘Collective action for knowledge economy with technology'

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) in collaboration with Qarshi University (QU), University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) and University of Management and Technology (UMT) organized two-day International conference on ‘Collective action for knowledge economy with technology (CAKE-Tech) held at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Islamabad held on February 25-26, 2019.

The main objective of this conference was to finalize a timeline to expedite education sector of the country by using innovative tools from the technology industry. Foreign delegates and the country’s renowned academicians participated in the conference.

Mr. Shafqat Mahmood, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training graced the event as chief guest. He emphasized on developing mobile apps and contents for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Those who also addressed the inaugural session included Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abbas Choudhary, Rector, Virtual University, Prof. Dr. Naveed A. Malik, Founding Rector of Virtual University of Pakistan and Otto Evjenth, Chairman Mare Nostrum, Norway.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abbas Choudhry, Rector Virtual University of Pakistan also chaired the plenary session-1 of the workshops on February 25, 2019. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abbas Choudhry highlighted various aspects of learning technologies of collective action for knowledge economy. He further said that Virtual University will extend all possible support in achieving the stipulated targets in the educational sector, through maximum use of new technology in its educational pursuits.

President of Pakistan, Chancellor of Virtual University of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi graced the event as chief guest on second day. Addressing the concluding session, he said that information and communication technology has brought a revolution worldwide in all walks of life like medicine, education and teaching and educational practices. Similar practices, we needed to get enforced in the country as well, he added.

The conference was attended by Dr. Syed Abdul Majid, Registrar, Prof. Dr. Masroor Ellahi Baber, Dean Faculty of Science and Technology, Prof. Dr. Malik Muhammad Arif Rafiq, Dean CS & IT, Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Javed, Director Quality Enhancement, Prof. Dr. Munawar Sultana Mirza, Advisor and big number of faculty from Virtual University of Pakistan.
