ASSOCIATE DEGREE IN COMPUTER SCIENCE (2 Years)

Introduction

The Department of Computer Science offers a 2-year Associate Degree Program in Computer Science and is equivalent to a 14-year Bachelor Degree. Computer Science is a dynamic field and most of the organizations are automating their existing systems in order to meet the challenges of 21st century. The prime focus of the program is to equip students in the field of Computer Science so that they could grasp the in-built technicalities and hands on experience about the fundamentals of Computer Science. During the course of this study program, students will learn basic skills required to develop software systems, databases, websites and computer networks. These skills will enable students to capitalize on the entry level career opportunities in the Computer Science sector and to expand the limits of their knowledge by pursuing further studies.

Note: Candidates holding Associate Degree can continue towards respective BS 4-year degree program. Or the student can apply for new admission towards any BS 4-Year degree program (Subject to admission eligibility with exemption/transfer of relevant qualified courses) as per policy.

Program Objectives

  1. Enlighten students with fundamentals of theoretical Computer Science.
  2. Enhance the programming skills of students by exposing them to multiple programming languages, tools, paradigms and technologies.
  3. Enhance the analytical and problem-solving skills of students.
  4. Enable students with technical expertise to add fruitful contribution in the software industry.
  5. Provide students with a combination of knowledge, hands-on experience, and application of theory to information issues.
  6. Empower students with the utility of Computer aided analysis/ design technology.

Program Outcomes

After completing the Program, students should be able to;

  1. Apply problem solving skills to achieve individual and organizational goals and objectives using Computer Science concepts.
  2. Select, design, integrate and administer CS-based solutions into the organizational environment.
  3. Develop critical thinking to evaluate the problem area and apply current as well as emerging technical concepts and practices in Computer Sciences.
  4. Work on a project using computing skills and present it logically and successfully in front of viva panel.
  5. Adapt latest tools, technologies and skills necessary for evolving computing practices of the industry.
  6. Start a career in a Computer Science industry or pursue further studies in relevant field.

Admission Eligibility Criteria

  1.  Minimum 50% marks in Intermediate/12 years schooling/A- Level (HSSC) or Equivalent with Mathematics are required for admission in Associate Degree in Computer Science. Equivalency certificate by IBCC will be required in case of education from some other country or system.
  2.  The students who have not studied Mathematics at intermediate level have to pass deficiency courses of Mathematics (06 credits) in first two semesters.
  3.  “Zero  Semester” is not applicable.

The mid and final term exams are conducted at VU’s designated exam centers and usually count for 80 to 85% of the total marks for a course.

Project

Students are required to complete a project of 3 credit hours in the final semester of their ADP degree program.

Award of Degree

To be eligible for the award of Associate Degree in Computer Science, a student is required to earn at least 69 credit hours with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 out of 4.
