M.Sc. APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY

Introduction/Description

Now-a-days, the field of Psychology is gaining a lot of attention and demand in the professional market. Psychologists are becoming an essential part of all the major spheres of market and industry globally. Every organization, no matter what domain it belongs to, is hiring psychologists to ensure the mental health of its human resources. The same trend is becoming increasingly functional in Pakistan as well. In this regard, the demand for higher educational qualification in this field is also increasing. The M.Sc. (Applied Psychology) Degree Program offers students with an excellent opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge for professional purposes. The program prepares graduates to enter or further continue their careers as professional psychologists in educational institutes, NGOs, armed forces and government as well as in private sector.

Program Objectives

Following are the main objectives of the Program:

  • To provide an overview of different schools of thoughts and approaches to understand human behavior;
  • To enhance the understanding of students about social, environmental and cultural factors contributing to the psychological well-being;
  • To provide an insight into issues related to mental health and to enable students to apply this knowledge in their own lives for better adjustment and learning;

Admission Eligibility Criteria

Bachelor’s Degree (14-year education) with ‘Psychology’ as an elective subject (or any other relevant equivalent qualification) from a recognized University/Institute with a minimum of 45% marks or CGPA 2.00 out of 4

Note

  • Candidates holding Bachelor’s Degree in disciplines other than mentioned above may enter through Diploma in Applied Psychology from VUP route.
  • Candidates holding Diploma in Applied Psychology from VUP will be given course(s) exemptions in case they apply admission in M.Sc. Applied Psychology.
  • Candidates holding 2-year Bachelor’s Degree from VUP will only be allowed to continue seamlessly towards their respective 4-year BS Degree Program at a later stage in life.
  • Zero Semester is not applicable for M.Sc. Applied Psychology Program.

Course Exemption

Course exemption is allowed.

Duration

The Program is a two-year full time study program spread over four semesters. Each semester has at least eighteen (18) weeks duration for teaching and examinations etc.

Assessment of Study Progress

The students’ study progress evaluation mechanism is based on continuous assessment throughout the semester by giving assignments, on-line quizzes, Graded Discussion Board (GDB), mid-term and final-term exams. The mid/final-term exams are conducted at VUP’s designated exam centers and usually count 80% to 85% of the total marks of a course. The students are also required to submit a Final Project and give a presentation which will be evaluated on “Pass/Fail” basis.

Project/Internship Report

Students are required to complete a Project/Internship Report of 3-credit hours in the final semester of the Program. The choice of the Final Project is at the student’s discretion. However, consultation with the student advisor is compulsory. Students have to submit a detailed write-up of the Project and may be required to give a presentation.

Students taking Internship course are required to complete 6 to 8 weeks internship in the organization and shall get an Internship Letter from the concerned organization. The students who are already in service will be exempted from internship but will have to submit the Project.

Award of Degree

To be eligible for the award of M.Sc. (Applied Psychology) Degree, the students are required to qualify the prescribed courses amounting to at least Sixty Six (66) credit hours with a Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 out of 4.
