Master of Finance

Introduction/Description

The program provides a well-integrated knowledge of financial accounting, finance and investment, and management accounting, together with the ability to relate this to the wider issues of management and corporate strategy. It prepares graduates for a wide range of careers in corporate finance, investment management, financial analysis and personal financial planning.

Program Objectives

  • To make students able to assess both the process of preparation and presentation of financial statements.
  • To develop the competencies to allocate and utilize the financial resources efficiently both in profit and non-profit organizations.
  • To make them able to recognize the importance and uses of financial statements.
  • To develop the understanding about basic and advanced level concepts related to finance and investment decisions in an organization setting.
  • Make them understand the role of financial information as the common language of business to all internal and external users.
  • To be able to effectively translate the theoretical and complex business situations into countable and measureable financial decisions through financial reporting and budgeting processes.
  • To grasp the concepts of business, project and stock market analysis for investment decisions.
  • To be able to effectively using the computer technologies for financial reporting, budgeting and analysis in business environment.
  • To be able to recognize the key ethical implications of purposeful financing decisions.

Admission Eligibility Criteria

Candidates having Bachelor’s degree (14-year education) in [B.Com, BBA (2-year) and other relevant equivalent qualification] with at least 45% marks or CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4 are eligible to apply.

Note

  • Candidates holding B.A/B.Sc. or Bachelor degree in disciplines other than those mentioned above may enter through Diploma route.
  • Candidates having less than 45% in their graduation from a recognized university / institute can become eligible to apply for admission (towards Dilopma, Master of Accounting, Master of Finance, Master of Accounting & Finance and Master of Banking & Finance) provided they firstly qualify Mathematics, Computer Proficiency, and English courses in a single semester (called “Zero  Semester”) and achieve a semester GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.
  • VU graduates holding B.Com and BA in Business Administration (2-years) degree are allowed only to continue in their respective BS (4-year) study programs.

Course Exemption

Course(s) exemption is allowed.

Duration

It is a two-year duration program spread over four semesters. Each semester has at least 18 weeks duration.

Assessment of Study Progress

The students study progress evaluation mechanism is based on continuous assessment throughout the semester by giving assignments, quizzes, Graded Discussion Boards (GDBs), mid-term and final-term examinations.

Award of Degree

To become eligible for the award of degree in above mentioned study programs, students are required to qualify prescribed courses amounting to at least 66 credit hours with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.0 out of 4.
