Associate Degree in Economics

Introduction

The two-year Associate Degree Program in Economics (ADP in Economics) is intended to give students a thorough understanding of economic theories, practices, and trends of diverse nature, for instance, Business Economics, Globalization, Banking Economics etc. The program is designed with care to provide students with the information and abilities needed for a fruitful and significant career in the field of economics. Students will get a solid foundation that equips them with the opportunities and challenges of the modern, dynamic economic landscape through demanding coursework and real-world experiences. The Associate Degree Program in Economics is skill-focused, specifically crafted to equip the young generation with practical market knowledge and tactics in a short time frame. This program aims to facilitate their entry into professional environments and support fresh graduates in becoming entrepreneurs.

Objectives

The main objectives of this program are to:

  1. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of microeconomic and macroeconomic principles to effectively analyze and interpret economic issues, trends, and policies.
  2. Acquire proficiency in mathematics, statistics, computing, and econometrics to engage with modern economic tools and perform quantitative analysis.
  3. Develop skills in English comprehension, business and technical writing, and effective communication to clearly articulate economic concepts and findings.
  4. Analyze cultural, ethical, and global contexts through the study of Islamic studies, ethics, Pakistan studies, and globalization to apply economic principles within broader societal frameworks.

Eligibility Criteria

Intermediate (equivalent to 12 years of education) with at least 45% marks.

Note

  • Candidates having ‘A’ levels are required to provide equivalence certificate from Inter Board Committee of Chairman (IBCC), Islamabad. (http://www.ibcc.edu.pk/)

  • Candidates having 33% ~44% marks will be eligible for admission after the successful completion of “Zero  Semester”.

Assessment Criteria

The students’ study progress evaluation mechanism is based on continuous assessment throughout the semester by giving assignments, on-line quizzes, Graded Moderated Discussion Board (GDB), mid-term and final-term exams. The mid and final term exams are conducted at VU’s designated exam centers and usually count for 80 to 85% of the total marks for a course.

Award of Degree

To be eligible for the award of the Associate Degree in Economics, the student is required to complete prescribed coursework of at least 65 credit hours with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 out of 4.
