The Department of Sociology at Virtual University of Pakistan held its Spring 2025 orientation session on April 24, drawing more than 300 enthusiastic new students. Dr. Sadia Jabeen, Head of Department, opened the session with a warm welcome, emphasizing sociology as a dynamic field offering insights into social problems, human behavior, and cultural structures, with diverse career opportunities in government, NGOs, education, and criminal justice.
Miss Umama Khalid and Miss Wajeeha Khalil guided students through key topics including the Learning Management System (LMS), academic calendars, semester activities, and VU’s digital support tools. They highlighted the importance of digital mentorship, moderated discussions, and using official platforms for academic correspondence.
Mr. Moazzam Elahi elaborated on the internship and project components now mandatory for graduation, detailing their objectives, procedures, and evaluation criteria.
Later question and answer session was conducted in which students’ queries were addressed. The session concluded with an overview of co-curricular opportunities and student societies, encouraging new students to actively engage beyond the classroom. With comprehensive insights and interactive discussions, the orientation equipped attendees with essential tools for a successful academic experience.
