 e-Webinar Series-3: AI as Research Assistant

The Faculty of Education, in collaboration with the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC), Virtual University of Pakistan, successfully conducted the third session of its ongoing e-Webinar series titled “The Future of Education and Research with AI: Tools, Trends, and Ethics.” The session, “AI as Research Assistant,” was held on October 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Dr. Munawwar Ahmed served as the Resource Person, while Ms. Ayesha Kiran moderated the session, ensuring active engagement and meaningful discussion.

The organizing team, including Mr. Muazzam Dildar, Dr. Muti Ullah, Dr. Sohail Mazher, and Ms. Oqba Khan, contributed to the smooth execution of the event. The webinar involved around 300–345 participants, including faculty members, research scholars, and students from Pakistan and abroad, reflecting widespread interest in AI applications in research and academia. The session began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by opening remarks from Dr. Sumbal Asghar, Head of Department and Chief Organizer for e-webinar series. She appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee, IT support team, and Virtual University leadership, emphasizing that the series aims to equip educators, researchers, and learners with knowledge and tools to leverage AI for innovation and academic excellence.

Dr. Munawwar Ahmed presented an in-depth exploration of AI as a research assistant, demonstrating its applications in literature review, data analysis, writing support, and academic integrity management. He highlighted AI-driven tools and methodologies that enhance research productivity, critical thinking, and innovation, while addressing ethical considerations in AI-assisted research. Pre- and post-session assessments measured participants’ understanding and engagement, and interactive discussions provided insights into AI-enabled research, encouraging participants to rethink their research methodologies in light of emerging technologies.

In her closing remarks, Dr. Sumbal Asghar thanked participants for their contributions and acknowledged the organizing team for a well-coordinated and intellectually enriching session. She emphasized the importance of enhancing AI literacy and research competence among educators and scholars to meet the opportunities and challenges of the digital era.
