The Virtual University of Pakistan is proud to share that Mr. Muhammad Hassam Shahid, Lecturer in Economics, was selected as a Young Economist to participate in the 8th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting on Economic Sciences, held from 26–30 August 2025 in Lindau, Germany.
The Lindau Meetings are among the world’s most prestigious academic gatherings, bringing together Nobel Laureates and outstanding early-career researchers from around the globe. Mr. Shahid’s selection places him among a distinguished group of emerging scholars contributing to international dialogue on advancing economic science.
During the event, Mr. Shahid attended high-level lectures and panel discussions led by eminent Nobel Laureates including Professor Paul Romer, Professor Joseph Stiglitz, and Professor Simon Johnson. These sessions offered cutting-edge insights into growth theory, inequality, development, and global macroeconomic challenges.
A notable highlight of Mr. Shahid’s experience was his participation in a Science Walk with Nobel Laureate Simon Johnson, where he engaged in an in-depth conversation on contemporary economic policy debates and future research directions. He also joined an exclusive coffee session with Simon Johnson, further enriching his academic exposure.
Mr. Shahid described the Lindau Meeting as a “transformative and inspiring experience,” noting that it has strengthened his commitment to high-quality research and opened pathways for new international collaborations.
